Ivana Trump's Health Lessons for Older Citizens; Research on PEMF & H2 on Brain, Bones, Athletes & More!
Hey friend,
When Ivana Trump’s cause of death last month was ruled an accident — that she suffered blunt impact injuries to her torso as a result of falling down the stairs in her New York City home — the 73-year-old tragically reminded us that around one million Americans fall down stairs annually. And that around 12,000 annually die from these falls.
In my opinion, Ivana Trump refused to accept the consequences of aging.
Seriously, a great challenge is an acceptance of growing older. Aging can be a tough pill to swallow. Especially for those who are known for the travails of their younger days. I have friends who explain as they age, they ‘disappear.’ I hate to hear this.
Regardless of her immense wealth, she must have encountered anguish when it comes to getting older. Sure having money doesn’t hurt. Suffering in luxury isn’t as bad. However, aging doesn’t care about a net worth statement.
Denial of aging is real and one of Ivana Trump’s best lessons for older citizens.
Who needs comprehensive studies to understand that denial of getting older is a reality? I see it in myself as I dramatically changed my diet and amped up my physical workouts years ago to fight or slow the inevitable.
I engage with people regularly who aren’t ready to deal with how someday they may move slower, forget things often and work through periodic illness or injury. Older clients and their adult children have a tough time facing that mom and dad are grayer, smaller, and frailer than they used to be.
I cannot tell you how many clients inform me how sure they are about dying early. How do they know? So, I always ask the following question –
“What if you don’t?”
Ivana Trump’s friends were concerned about her home’s beautiful but dangerous staircase. They were worried about her falling. She had an elevator and rarely used it. The stairs at her home were steep, the carpet was worn. Although she had trouble walking, she regularly took the stairs. She had the money to remove or replace the carpet; the elevator would have been safer, but she rarely used it.
In her heyday, Ivana was New York royalty. Young, vibrant. She could accomplish anything. How can someone like that stare into the mirror and face the perils of old age? How can you? Can I?
Acceptance opens the door to preparation – eating right, exercising regularly, and preparing for the risks of aging through comprehensive planning and open communication with family and friends.
This leads to the lesson for older citizens from Ivana Trump.
According to a 2017 study that appeared in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, older adults, younger children and women reported suffering the most injuries, but all folks of all ages are at risk, said the study’s authors.
The study noted that around half of all homes in the U.S. contain stairs. Among the most common causes of falls on stairs are the following:
Slippery steps
Liquid pooled on steps
Torn carpets
Poor lighting
Unsafe handrails
Uneven or missing steps
Clutter on the staircase
Attempting to carry an object or objects
Improper footwear
Distraction or inattention while traversing stairs
Published reports have noted that there was a spilled cup of coffee found next to Ivana’s body.
All falls can be dangerous
The statistics don’t lie: The older we get, the more at risk we all become to falls.
According to the United States CDC “each year, 3 million older people are treated in emergency departments for fall injuries” and “at least 300,000 older people are hospitalized for hip fractures” annually as a result of falling.
And our bones aren’t the only things we injure when we fall: The CDC also notes “falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injuries.”
Among the conditions that can affect your balance and increase your risk for falling are vitamin D deficiency, the (over)use of certain medications (including tranquilizers, sedatives, painkillers and/or antidepressants), vision problems and home hazards (such as loose carpet or throw rugs and slippery floors and showers).
In addition, without a regular and targeted exercise program designed to improve balance, flexibility and functional strength, you’ll lose muscle mass every year.
Losing muscle mass as you age decreases your ability to handle routine aspects of life, such as carrying groceries, performing household chores, getting in and out of cars, and the like.
But there are ways to mitigate your risk factors by listening to your body and deploying anti-aging technologies.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy
When it comes to improving mental balance and motor-skills, PEMF therapy can be an excellent modality to stay in tune with your body.
There is a strong relationship of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis growth factor-alpha (TNF-α) with muscle mass and muscle strength in elderly men and women. PEMF has been found to modulate these genes and thereby provide improvements.
PEMF has also been found to help in several aging-related health conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Osteoporosis, Arthritis and several more. You can find all our research review articles on PEMF therapy on our website. PEMF is a perfect anti-aging technology that provides immense mental and physical rejuvenation effects with regular use.
If you’re a athlete or sports player, you should know that PEMF has been the secret of success and career extension of several world-class players since more than 20 years.
Molecular Hydrogen & OxyHydrogen
Molecular hydrogen is a fundamental anti-aging technology which will help improve strength and agility due to it’s rapid anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects.
Pure molecular hydrogen and H2-O2 (Oxyhydrogen) are both great methods of enhancing oxygenation in the entire body and beating oxidative stress and inflammation.
Molecular hydrogen reacts with the hydroxyl radical, a highly cytotoxic species produced in inflamed tissues. It has been suggested therefore to use gaseous hydrogen in a new anti-inflammatory strategy. In a study by scientists from Korea, it was found that molecular hydrogen might be an effective treatment modality for the prevention and treatment of skin-related illnesses. It’s easy to understand how fundamental H2 can be, it’s an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory AND the tiniest molecule in the universe which is rapidly absorbed by the body.
Similarly polarized light, static magnetic fields and low-level lasers offer some fascinating possibilities to resolve causes of inflammations, recharge the mind and our overall health.
“She was having pain in her leg..”
According to a New York Post interview that was later confirmed by The Daily Beast, Trump's friend Zach Erdem said she had not been "feeling well" for weeks and had been unable to "get out of her house." Erdem reportedly said that Trump's mobility issues caused by a problem with her hip forced her to skip recent plans to visit him.
"There was something going on with her hip, she couldn't walk," Erdem said. She said she wasn't feeling well ... She said she was having pain in her leg. ... She couldn't get out of her house."
Ivana Trump’s health lessons for older citizens are lessons for us all, regardless of age. Planning to age gracefully and healthfully will lead to a prosperous retirement. Staying free of inflammation and having a stress-free mind are absolutely critical for survival.
As George Burns said, “You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.”
